1.15 trillion semiconductor products sold in 2021, totaling $555.9 billion

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) announced that global semiconductor product sales in 2021 were $555.9 billion. This is the highest annual figure in the history of the industry. It is up 26.2% from the figure recorded in 2020, when sales reached $440.4 billion.

In quantitative terms, the industry shipped 1.15 trillion semiconductor products in 2021. This figure is also a record.

Manufacturers have ramped up output to meet strong demand amid a global chip shortage. Global sales in December 2021 alone were $50.9 billion, up 28.3% on December 2020 and 1.5% on November 2021.

SIA experts note that in 2021, analog semiconductor products, which are widely used in vehicles, consumer goods and computers, showed a particularly large increase - 33.1%. In monetary terms, this segment is 74 billion dollars. Logic chips and memory were the largest categories by sales volume. These segments are equal to 154.8 and 153.8 billion dollars, and their growth compared to 2020 was 30.8% and 30.9%, respectively. Sales in the microprocessor category rose 15.1% to $80.2 billion. Automotive chip sales rose 34.3% to $26.4 billion.
