Tesla inflates range and violates consumer rights by not returning deposit when canceling pre-order

The Republic of Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) has accused Tesla of overstating the range of electric vehicles sold in South Korea, saying that under different conditions, the range may be less than declared.

The source notes that various Tesla models, including the Model 3, experience a significant range reduction in sub-zero temperatures or when driving fast on highways, which is not mentioned on the official Tesla website or in advertising.

On its website, Tesla reported that the range of Tesla Model 3 cars on a single charge is 528 kilometers, which is not true, as shown by various tests conducted during the cold season.

In addition, KFTC plans to impose penalties on Tesla's non-refundable pre-order policy. Korean consumers are required to pay an $85 deposit when booking a car on the official Tesla website. If the order is cancelled, this amount will not be refunded. The KFTC believes the move violates consumer rights. Tesla has not commented on the situation at this time.

In other news, Tesla opens all Supercharger charging stations for third-party electric vehicles in the Netherlands.
