More than a third of Russians consider the metaverses harmful

VTsIOM published a survey, according to the results of which 37% of Russians believe that there will be more harm from the metaverses.

During the study, specialists interviewed 1,600 respondents over the age of 18 over the phone.

10% of respondents (15% of men and 7% of women) know about the concept of “metaverse”, 23% have heard about this term and do not fully understand it, 67% of people do not know what it is at all.

27% of respondents would like to visit the metaverse in the form of their digital copy (56% of them are young people from 18 to 24 years old), and 69% are not interested in this.

At the same time, 9% of respondents emphasized the benefits of metauniverses (mainly young people aged 18-24 - 23%). Of the previously mentioned 37% of people who called the virtual environment harmful, 49% are people aged 35 to 44.

19% of the respondents felt that the metaverses would bring benefits and harm at the same time, and 18% - that in there would be neither one nor the other.

The reasons for the negative impact of the virtual environment are the danger of escape from reality (37%), lack of live communication (11%) and degradation (9%).

The benefits, in turn, are found in more opportunities for communication (14%), broadening one's horizons (13%), simplifying the search for information and demonstrating technical progress (8% each).

Earlier, the CEO of VKontakte, Marina Krasnova, expressed the opinion that the emergence and wide distribution of metaverses should be preceded by a change in user habits.
