Nintendo decides to close the online game store for Nintendo Wii U and 3DS

The Japanese company Nintendo announced bad news for fans of the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS game consoles - the Nintendo eShop online game store will be closed for them.

From the end of March 2023, Nintendo eShop will no longer be able to make purchases for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. In addition, it will not be possible to download free content, including game demos.

In addition, as this date approaches, the corresponding services will stop working. As of August 29, 2022, it will no longer be possible to add funds to Nintendo eShop for Wii U or Nintendo 3DS using a Nintendo eShop Card. However, download codes will be available until the end of March 2023.

Users who have combined their funds linked to a Nintendo Network ID (used in Nintendo eShop for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS) with funds linked to their Nintendo Account (used in Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch) will be able to use the pooled funds to purchase content on any of these consoles and systems until the end of March 2023. After this date, funds can only be used to purchase content on Nintendo Switch.

Starting in late March 2023 and foreseeable future, it will still be possible to redownload games or downloadable content, receive software updates, and play online on Wii U consoles and Nintendo 3DS systems.

As the company emphasized, no changes are planned for Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch.
