Chevrolet Bolt electric car production to resume after flaming battery fiasco

American automotive giant General Motors will resume production of the troubled electric Chevrolet Bolt. This was reported immediately by The Wall Street Journal and The Detroit News.

Initially, the manufacturer planned that production would not resume until at least the end of January 2022. As GM spokesman Dan Flores has now revealed, production will soon resume:

GM will resume production at its plant in Orion Township, Michigan on April 4, 2022."

Retail sales will resume shortly thereafter.

Recall that last year GM had to recall the Chevy Bolt and stop sales due to the risk of high-voltage battery fire. At the time of the recall, a total of 10 such electric vehicle fires had been reported during the summer. The problem turned out to be defective LG cells in car batteries. LG Electronics agreed to reimburse GM for all costs associated with the recall, which GM estimated was about $2 billion. Since then, the automaker has been working to replace battery modules in more than 140,000 problematic Chevrolet Bolts.
