Veteran CD Projekt Red who worked on The Witcher 3 founded the Rebel Wolves studio and announced the work on a dark fantasy RPG

According to The Verge, veterans CD Projekt Red (CDPR) founded the Rebel Wolves studio and have already begun work on a AAA-class RPG in the style of dark fantasy with an open world. In an email to The Witcher 3, studio co-founder Konrad Tomaszkiewicz indicated that the game would be comparable in scale to The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion, while having a more non-linear storyline. Rebel Wolves plans to release the game in 2025 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Tomashkevich indicated that the game will be built on the Unreal 5 engine. He promised not to chase trends and numbers to make the game really great:

Our goal is clearly defined - to create memorable games, tell exciting stories and evoke strong emotions. Yes, it's ambitious and I'm happy about it. Art needs ambition. I don't want to create another game. I want to work on titles [title games] that people will remember

In addition, Tomashkevich said that the studio aims to create the "Holy Grail of RPG games." The team is proud of their past accomplishments and is committed to achieving more, pushing the boundaries and creating new ways of storytelling in the gaming industry. The game should provide the user with almost limitless possibilities at the expense of a world in which every decision matters.

The core of the studio is the people who worked on the CDPR title games. In particular, in addition to Tomaszkiewicz, the co-founder of Rebel Wolves was the director Jakub Shamalek, who worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. The core also included The Witcher design director Daniel Sadowski and CDPR employees who worked on The Witcher 3 - art director Bartlomiej Havel and animation director Tamara Zavada. Currently, the studio employs a team of 12 people, but, according to Tomashkevich, in the next few years the staff will be expanded to 80 people.

The Witcher 3 game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz left CDPR in May 2021. He was accused of harassment and humiliation of the company's employees, but the investigation proved the groundlessness of these accusations. Despite this, Tomashkevich decided to quit the studio. He worked at CDPR for about 17 years, 15 of which he worked on The Witcher series. In 2019, he became Vice President of CD Projekt RED and Auxiliary Game Director of Cyberpunk 2077.
