The results of the latest study by Counterpoint Research confirm that shipments in the Chinese market in the fourth quarter of 2020 fell by 11% compared to the same quarter of 2020. But at the same time, the Honor smartphone brand managed to take second place for the first time since the company became independent from Huawei. Apple took the lead and 21.7% of the market, outperforming all Chinese companies in their home market. Oppo came in third with 16.7%, Vivo came in fourth with 16.5% and Xiaomi came in fifth with a 16.1% share. Honor's market share grew by 100%, Xiaomi improved by 15%, and Apple by 13%. Other companies worsened their last year's results.

According to Counterpoint, Apple has done well with sales of the iPhone 13 and its comparatively lower starting price in the premium segment. Meanwhile, Honor Magic3 leads the sales in the premium segment due to its high performance and attractive exterior design. Honor also launched its first foldable smartphone, the Magic V.

By 2022, Oppo, Vivo and Honor are expected to continue to expand into the premium segment as well as foldable devices.
