WSJ: Alibaba fires employee who accused her boss of sexual assault

According to WSJ sources, Alibaba has fired an employee who filed a lawsuit against her manager. A girl named Zhou accused him of rape while on a business trip. She also pointed out that the company's management was notified of the incident but ignored Zhou's complaints. In turn, Alibaba accused her of spreading false information and causing damage to reputation.

Alibaba's employee clarification letter says the girl violated the company's internal code of conduct by spreading false information to colleagues through flyers, message boards and banners in the cafeteria, causing great public concern and damaging the company. In addition, the company points out that Zhou has not made any attempts to establish cooperation with her, including an offer to pay for legal and consulting costs. Alibaba assured that it had previously tried to negotiate a peaceful exit from the company. Zhou denied these allegations. She indicated that she regularly communicated with representatives of the company. The girl also provided the WSJ with screenshots in which she asks to extend her vacation due to depression associated with rape.

The incident took place at the end of July this year. During a business dinner, Zhou said she was forced to drink with clients. Soon, she practically passed out and woke up on the bed in the hotel room, finding the leader on her, who was pawing and kissing her. She filed a lawsuit against him, but the Chinese authorities rejected him, saying that the actions of the girl's former boss did not reach the criminal level.

After receiving the camera tapes, investigators confirmed that he had entered Zhou's room several times to commit "forced indecent acts," but there was no evidence of rape. The defendant himself also confirmed that he used the woman's insane state for intimate acts. As a punishment, the leader received 15 days of administrative arrest, the criminal case was dropped. On November 25, the company sent a resignation letter to Zhou.

It was only after the case became public that the company fired Zhou's former boss and several employees, accusing them of leaking data from the girl's work account. Also, the former president of the retail division, where Zhou worked, and another executive, whose position was not specified, left the company on their own. After that, Alibaba issued guidelines in which it indicated that it does not support a culture of forced drinking.

The former president of the retail division sued Zhou, arguing that management did not ignore her complaints about her boss. He demanded a daily public apology from her for 15 days and compensation of 1 yuan ($ 0.16) for moral damages.
