Intel's first next-generation discrete graphics accelerators to arrive in Q2 2022

Intel has introduced its own new generation graphics cards. It is noteworthy that this is not a game series expected by gamers, but a line of equipment for computer centers. The novelty will go on sale in the middle of this year.

The graphics card, codenamed Arctic Sound-M, is based on the DG2 (Xe-HPG) GPU with 512 compute units. Power is supplied from an 8-pin EPS connector. There is no monitor output on the graphics card, and the case and cooling holes are designed specifically for embedding in racks.

The company said the Arctic Sound-M is equipped with an AV1 hardware encoder that increases bandwidth by 30%. Intle separately emphasized that the equipment is already being prepared for release and the system will become available in the second quarter of 2022.

Discrete GPUs in the Arc line of notebooks will be available in the first quarter of 2022. Intel said OEMs have already begun manufacturing Arc-based devices. Solutions for desktop computers and workstations have been postponed to the second and third quarters of this year, respectively.

At the end of 2021, a journalist from PC Gamer published an open letter to Intel and asked to resolve the issue with the shortage of video cards. The letter was answered by the head of the company and the head of the Intel Graphics division. Both said they are looking into the problem and have set themselves the goal of producing "millions of graphics accelerators every year."
