The first person to be infected with the omicron strain of coronavirus has died today.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced this to the media. In addition, Johnson urged citizens to be revaccinated with an additional component of the drug.

To date, 16 cases of infection with the omicron strain are known in Russia. According to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, out of 177 Russians who returned from South Africa, 16 people were found to have a new strain of coronavirus. Golikova noted that all infected are under observation.

In addition, the Gamaleya Center previously reported that two Russians with omicron were vaccinated against coronavirus. According to experts, the infected do not show severe symptoms of the disease.

Earlier, Alexander Gintsburg said that at the moment there is no reason to change the existing vaccines to combat the omicron detected in November. However, scientists have already developed a vaccine combination against the South African strain that is pending trials.
