Meta is no longer among the ten most valuable companies in the world

The Bloomberg agency presented the rating of the most expensive world companies, the top ten of which does not include Meta Corporation (formerly Facebook). The company occupies the eleventh line of the list. Apple is in first place.

The value of Meta securities has fallen by 40% since the beginning of the year. This was preceded by the fact that the company announced a decrease in the number of daily active users of the social network Facebook. Approximately 1 million users left the site during the period from the third to the fourth quarter of 2021.

The announcement caused the stock to drop 26.4% on February 3 this year, reducing Meta's capitalization by $240 million. Business Insider notes that this situation is unprecedented in the corporate history of the United States. The personal fortune of the head of the company Mark Zuckerberg since the beginning of the year has decreased from $124.8 billion to $78.8 billion.

To date, the value of Meta securities has collapsed by another 13%. According to Bloomberg, the corporation's capitalization is $565.4 billion. Less than two weeks ago, the market value of Meta was $612.2 billion, the company was on the eighth line of the rating according to Dow Jones.

The top three on Bloomberg's list are Apple ($2.8 trillion), Microsoft ($2.2 trillion) and Aramco ($2 trillion). China's Tencent is in tenth place with $598.8 billion. It is the only Chinese company in the top 10 and the second Asian firm after TSMC, which is in ninth place with $600.3 billion.

At the beginning of last year, Tencent's capitalization began to approach $1 trillion, but China's new policy on IT giants, announced in the summer, collapsed the value of their shares. As a result, Tencent and Alibaba dropped out of the top 10 most valuable global companies.

Meta was also affected by scandals related to the publication of internal documents of the company, which were transferred to the media and law enforcement agencies by former Facebook employee Francis Haugen last fall. This information demonstrated that the company was aware of the harm that social networks cause to children and adults. In addition, there were publications in the press that Facebook has a system of VIP users that are not subject to the general rules of the social network. In addition, the company was accused of being inactive in the fight against misinformation, as well as content that promotes hatred and violence. Behind most of these publications was the Wall Street Journal.

At the end of October last year, Facebook changed its name to Meta. The old name no longer fits what the company and its users are, Meta explained.
