US Department of Labor launched an investigation into Apple

The US Department of Labor will investigate allegations of former Apple employees of sexual harassment and unsafe working conditions. Former company engineer Ashley Gjewik filed a complaint against Apple to achieve justice and protect herself and other company employees.

In the summer, an Apple engineer filed a statement with the US National Labor Relations Board, in which she spoke about the harassment and other measures of her employer. Gjewik criticized the company for several months, complaining of sexism and harassment from superiors.

She stated that Apple violates the privacy of employees and monitors them. According to Gievik, the company believes that all personal information of employees should belong to Apple. She made such a conclusion when, during employment, employees were forced to transfer all information from their smartphones.

In September, Apple fired Gievik for the information leak. All of the company's investigations, which began after its complaints, have led nowhere. That same month, the National Labor Relations Board allowed Gjewik to file a private lawsuit against Apple.

Gievik says the company took drastic action against her because it believed it would never be held accountable. The ex-employee wants to prove otherwise.

The Labor Department believes that by firing Apple, it avenged Gjewik for her stance and activism. Employment attorney Stephen Cohn says the Labor Department rarely investigates such cases against large companies due to its nondisclosure policy. However, when it comes down to it, they are closely followed by the public.

Another employee, Cher Scarlett, left Apple last month. She tried to conduct a salary survey among company employees. Apple settled the issue with Scarlett privately and entered into a settlement agreement with her.
