LG's 55-inch transparent OLED TV is on its way

LG Display and LG Electronics are about to release a unique OLED TV. Unlike other models LG already sells, the new model will be transparent.

According to TheElec, South Korean display maker LG Display has submitted a proposal to LG Electronics for a new TV with a 55-inch transparent OLED panel. It will be released under the Home Entertainment Company brand (the television business unit).

The sources also added that Home Entertainment Company plans to consider the offer in the future. If this plan is approved, development of LG's transparent OLED TV will likely begin in the second half of this year. The official launch could take place sometime in 2023. Since this is a transparent panel, LG Display will likely reinforce the transparent screen with a durable glass cover.

At the moment, LG Electronics already produces transparent OLED products. However, these models are only for businesses, not consumers. We are talking about signs that were made by the Business Solutions division of the company. But the South Korean company's transparent OLED TVs could soon hit global markets.

Notably, Xiaomi is already selling a 55-inch OLED TV with a transparent display, which was introduced back in 2020.
