Cyberpunk 2077's Big Console Update Couldn't Deliver Promised 4K

Representatives of Digital Foundry analyzed the work of patch 1.5 for Cyberpunk 2077 and found out that the update failed to provide 4K resolution on current generation consoles. The advertised resolution is not available in either performance mode or ray tracing mode.

At launch, Cyberpunk 2077 was available on current-generation consoles via the backwards compatibility feature. The developers paid attention to this and promised to fix all the errors in the future and release a native version. Patch 1.5 provided players with a version of the game written using the new SDK, however, the resolution was never raised to the promised 4K.

Prior to the release of the patch, Cyberpunk 2077 ran on PS5 and Xbox Series X at 972p-1200p. Now the native version on PS5 produces a picture with a resolution of 1260p to 1729p, and the Xbox Series X version runs in the range from 1382p to 1782p, which is far from 2160p at 4K Separately, experts noted that disabling ray tracing improves the situation, but it's still does not help achieve the promised 4K.

Reviewers summed it up and said that the console version is still very far from the PC version. CD Projekt RED significantly improved the game and fixed bugs, but the quality of the image falls short of the declared and inferior to other projects.

Along with this, several gaming publications at once suggested that Cyberpunk 2077 would no longer get much better and the studio would focus on releasing add-ons.

Patch 1.5 for Cyberpunk 2077 was released on February 16, 2022. The studio carried out a large-scale work on the bugs and brought the project to the release state. Users who bought the game for the console at the start of sales received the opportunity to upgrade to the native version for current generation consoles for free. New users were given a five-hour trial version of the game.
