Qualcomm decided to give the order for the development of the 3-nanometer processor TSMC instead of Samsung

Qualcomm has decided to award a 3nm SoC development contract to TSMC rather than Samsung. Previously, TSMC has already received part of the order for the production of the 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor.

According to The Elec, citing its own sources, Qualcomm has added TSMC to its list of partners due to problems in the production of Samsung.

According to the publication, the percentage of output of high-quality single-chip systems Snapdragon 8 Gen1 from Samsung is about 35%. The quality percentage of the Exynos 2200 is even lower. Due to the loss of one of the contracts with a key client, the company's management demanded an audit of the Samsung Foundry division, which is engaged in the production of chips.

The termination of the contract with Qualcomm is a big blow for Samsung, as the company has already lost an order for 7nm processors to Nvidia. Qualcomm will continue to give Samsung orders for its 7nm chip for now, but if both Qualcomm and Nvidia decide to rely entirely on TSMC in the future, Samsung will lose two of its biggest customers.

In the meantime, troubling rumors are also circulating around TSMC. Taiwanese insiders report that TSMC has encountered problems while working on 3nm chips. Like Samsung, there are rumors that there are not enough good products in new batches.
