Kioxia releases first UFS modules complying with MIPI M-PHY v5.0 specification

Kioxia announced the availability of samples of the industry's first embedded UFS flash drives that comply with the MIPI M-PHY v5.0 specification. They use proprietary flash memory BiCS FLASH. Drives designed for use in mobile devices will be available in 128, 256 and 512 GB.

The mentioned MIPI M-PHY 5.0 standard provides for a theoretical data transfer rate of up to 23.2 Gb / s per line (two lines - 46.4 Gb / s) in HS-Gear5 mode. Due to this, in the case of a 256 GB module, an increase in sequential read speed by about 90%, sequential write speed by 70%, performance on random access operations in read mode by about 35%, in write mode by 60% compared to previous generation UFS drives.

The manufacturer makes a reservation that the actual read and write speeds depend on the capabilities of the host, file size and other conditions.
