Sony talks about the design of the next generation VR headset

Sony has unveiled the design of the next-generation PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2) VR headset and PlayStation VR2 Sense controller. The design concept was thought out during the formation of the design of the PS5 console and is very similar to it. According to the company, the image of a VR headset was already in the minds of designers when they were working on the console.

Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform management, said the designers paid great attention to ergonomics and did a lot of testing. On the PS VR2 system, according to a review on the PlayStation website:

a lens adjustment system is installed so that the player can adjust the distance between them;

reduced headset weight;

built-in motor to create a recoil effect;

a new vent was designed.

there is graphics with a resolution of 4K;

HDR support with graphics rendering;

mproved tracking thanks to the built-in camera;

new PS VR2 Sense controller.

Yujin Morisawa, Senior Art Director, SIE.

“When I started working on the design of the PlayStation VR2 headset, the first thing that came to my mind was to make a hole in it, through which air would exit like the ventilation in the PS5 console. Our engineers found this to be a great way to keep the headset ventilated and keep the lenses from fogging up while players are playing VR games. I tried many concepts, and still reached my goal: in the final design, you will see the vent in the fold between the top and front surfaces of the headset. I am pleased with the result, and we have already managed to get a lot of positive feedback. Hopefully PlayStation fans will agree when they pick up the headset."

A single cable is enough to connect the PS VR2 system. PS VR2 Developer Kits have already been donated to game developers. Therefore, players have the hope that the new headset will have more games than the previous version on the previous generation, and they will be released more often.
