Forward to the past or back to the future? FreeDOS 1.3 released

Although the legendary Microsoft DOS operating system (MS-DOS) has long been abandoned, Microsoft's work continues through the open source FreeDOS project. And now there is a new version of FreeDOS - 1.3. For the first time in six years, the project has undergone major renovations.

Project author Jim Hall lists a ton of new features, including an updated kernel, FAT32 support for 8086 processors (whoever uses them now), new apps and games, many new or updated packages, an improved installation process, and so on.

FreeDOS 1.3 comes in six flavors: LiveCD, BonusCD, LegacyCD, FullUSB, LiteUSB, and Floppy Edition. Each of these archive images is available for download on the official website of the project. The most compact is FreeDOS 1.3 LiteUSB, its size is only 15.6 MB, and only the essentials are inside. The largest image, the FreeDOS 1.3 LiveCD, is 375 MB and includes various applications and games.
