Sberbank and VK will continue joint projects after changes in the management of the social network and the change of owners

On December 15, 2021, the media reported that the chairman of the board of Sberbank, German Gref, met with the new CEO of VK, Vladimir Kiriyenko. The heads of Russian companies agreed to continue cooperation both in the current spheres of activity and to think about expanding the partnership “even further”.

At present, Sberbank and VK remain partners (owning 45% each) in the O2O Holding joint venture in the field of food and transport (O2O platform - online-to-offline), which includes the Citymobil taxi service, car sharing CityDrive, food and grocery delivery services Delivery Club, Kitchen in the District, Samokat, and FoodPlex, a digital platform for the restaurant market.

Gref said that there are still unresolved issues in the joint venture with VK, but they will still be worked out against the background of the fact that Sber has good relations with VK, and the development teams of sites from different companies communicate with each other and get along.

Gref explained that the fate of O2O Holding will be resolved soon, and Sber can sell part of its projects there - now this issue is under consideration by the management of a financial organization.

Gref also spoke about the new CEO of VK. He knew him earlier and considers Kiriyenko a very modern and advanced manager who clearly understands his priorities and the interests of the company.

On December 15, VK announced a change in the company's Board of Directors. Sergey Kupriyanov, press secretary of the chairman of the board of "Gazprom" Alexei Miller, entered the post of non-executive director. Kupriyanov replaced Sber's board member Alexandra Buriko on the VK Board of Directors. Representatives of "Sberbank" no longer remained in the leadership of VK.

On December 13, 2021, the board of directors of VK (formerly Mail.Ru Group) unanimously approved the appointment of Vladimir Kirienko as the new CEO of the company. Previously, he served as Vice President at Rostelecom.

On December 3, VK CEO Boris Dobrodeyev announced his resignation. He ran the company since 2014 after leaving the management of the social network of its founder Pavel Durov. The change of the VK CEO took place after the change in the shareholder structure of MF Technologies - USM sold its entire stake in VK to SOGAZ, and then Gazprombank transferred control over VK shares to the Gazprom-Media holding.

On November 24, Sberbank said that it had closed the deal to sell to Gazprombank its 36% stake in MF Technologies JSC, which controls 57.3% of VK's voting shares (Mail.Ru Group).
