The Simula One, the first standalone virtual reality headset on Linux, is now available for pre-order

The developers have opened a pre-order for the virtual reality device Simula One on Linux. This is a full-fledged VR computer, its cost starts at $2,499.

Device Specifications:

Image output: two 2448×2448 LCDs per eye (4996×2448 in total) at 90Hz;

sensors: two RGB cameras, eye and hand tracking;

A unique feature of Simula One is the pre-installed SimulaOS based on a custom open source VR Linux distribution. The device can be used to play games in SteamVR.

The developers have added the ability to work with augmented reality using two high-resolution cameras, there is support for UltraLeap and pass-through AR mode.

With the headset on the Simula One head, the user can type on the virtual keyboard and work with different windows in the OS.

So far, there are no ready-made Simula One devices. The project developers plan to start deliveries to the first customers at the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023.

Previously, the developers presented a prototype of Simula One and showed its appearance.
