Schemes of theft of money of Russians through ATMs are described

The system for creating QR codes for withdrawing cash in banking applications has become popular with scammers. The use of new schemes to steal funds was described by Ivan Samoilenko, managing partner of the communications agency B&C Agency.

“This is convenient and saves time, but leaves the risk of becoming a victim of scammers. They can steal the code directly from the bank, or intercept it if the device (phone or computer) of the account holder or recipient is infected with virus programs,” he said.

According to the specialist, banks limit the validity period of the QR code and notify the client about the ongoing operation to prevent cash theft through ATMs. Also, credit institutions introduce daily limits for withdrawing money.

“Most often, the danger may come from the actions of the client himself, who discloses secret information to third parties,” Samoylenko warned. He concluded that it is important for customers not to send codes to strangers and carefully check their gadgets for third-party programs.

The QR code system allows you to withdraw money from another person's card at an ATM. The code can be generated in the mobile application. The owner indicates the amount that can be withdrawn and sends the code to his trusted person (friend or relative).

Earlier, the honored lawyer of Russia, Ivan Solovyov, listed seven phrases that are the most popular among telephone scammers when they call under the guise of bank employees or Gosuslug.
