The Union of Journalists hopes to punish social networks for censoring Russian media

The Union of Journalists of Russia (UJR) expects Roskomnadzor to punish social networks, including Facebook, for censoring the Russian media. This is stated in a statement posted on the SZHR website.

The association noted that sanctions against journalists and the media are unacceptable.

“The Union of Journalists of Russia expects that Roskomnadzor will bring social networks that censor Russian media to justice as provided by law,” the statement said.

The UJR also pointed out that "recently, more of our colleagues and the media are under pressure to prevent the free flow of information." The organization recalled that some countries “make a decision to stop broadcasting Russian TV channels,” and “outright censorship” appears in social networks.

In early February, the German regulator MABB banned the RT DE TV channel from broadcasting in Germany due to the lack of a license. It is specified that RT DE Productions has four weeks to challenge this decision in the administrative court.

The press service of the RT DE TV channel called the actions of the regulator unlawful and stated that they "violate the European Convention on Cross-border Television (ECTT)".
