Some U.S. carriers have removed fees for communication with Ukraine [Updated: Canadian and European carriers too]

Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T announced that users can contact their family and friends in Ukraine for free. Verizon says it won't charge for long distance calls and text messages made to or from Ukraine until March 10.

For Verizon customers in Ukraine, all roaming charges related to calls and text messages will also be waived. And if you have a Verizon international calling plan, calls to Ukraine won't count towards your monthly minutes. Manon Brouillette, executive vice president and general manager of Verizon Consumer Group, says, "During these challenging times, customers need to stay connected with loved ones."

For T-Mobile customers, long-distance and international roaming charges will be charged for all calls and SMS messages sent or received from Ukraine. This applies not only to all T-Mobile customers, but also to Sprint subscribers. When calling within Ukraine to local numbers, T-Mobile subscribers in roaming will also not be charged for long-distance and international roaming.

The company adds: “We understand that many T-Mobile customers and their loved ones may be affected by events taking place in Ukraine. As this situation evolves and the need for reliable connectivity increases, we are offering support to those who need it.”

AT&T is also offering its customers free unlimited calls and SMS messages to and from Ukraine from February 26 to March 7.

Updated: Mobile operators in Canada, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Slovakia, North Macedonia, Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Czech Republic, Poland, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina have also canceled call charges.
