Elon Musk said that Tesla will invest $ 10 billion in Gigafabrika and open 20 thousand jobs

During the correspondence on Twitter, the head of Tesla, Elon Musk, indicated that the company will invest another $ 10 billion in the Gigafabrika (Giga Texas) under construction in Texas (USA) in the future and will open 20 thousand new jobs. In total, the company will employ about 100 thousand people, taking into account the entire infrastructure. Tesla has already spent about $ 1 billion on construction. The assembly of the first electric cars at the plant should begin after December 31.

Musk announced the construction of the Giga Texas last summer. It is planned to assemble Cybertruck electric trucks, Model 3 and Model Y electric cars, Semi trucks and Tesla Bot humanoid robots. Currently, Tesla sells absolutely all electric vehicles of these models sold in the USA. Some buyers have to sign up in line for a year in advance to wait for the car. To meet demand, Tesla has begun building the Giga Texas - the enterprise must double its total production.

At the moment, a little more than $ 1 billion has already been invested in Giga Texas, as evidenced by the project documentation published on the Web. The completion date of work on them is scheduled for December 31 of this year, after which it is planned to begin assembling Model Y electric cars. After a while, they will begin to assemble Cybertruck, Model 3 and other products.

The company expects the plant to (at least) be able to produce about 500,000 Model Y electric cars a year. The overall production ramp-up could take all of 2022, according to Tesla.

In early October this year, Elon Musk announced that Tesla was moving its headquarters from Palo Alto, California, to Austin, Texas. He explained this solution as a more accessible environment for further development. Musk himself moved to Texas late last year, criticizing California's high taxes, real estate crisis and ever-clogged roads. Probably another reason for the move could be the closure of Tesla's Fremont plant in connection with the pandemic, because of which the company was suing Alameda County.
