Activision will release Call of Duty: Warzone on mobile devices

Game publisher Activision announces that it will bring its shooter Call of Duty: Warzone to mobile devices. The company announced the recruitment of new employees to work on the port.

Activision says the mobile version of Warzone will be a massive battle royale created with cutting-edge technology. The game is likely in the early stages of development as the company hasn't provided screenshots, videos, or a release date.

The company's intent can also be indicated by the recruitment of developers, designers, marketers, as well as many other specialists. They will join the teams of existing studios including Solid State Studios, Beenox, Digital Legends and Demonware.

The publisher did not specify how Warzone's mobile multiplayer will be implemented, whether it will be similar to the Apex Legend model, which involves playing with other mobile device users, or whether it will be cross-platform, as is the case with Fortnite. The company declined to comment on this assumption.

Activision already has experience in mobile games under the Call of Duty title. In October 2019, Call of Duty: Mobile was released, which was developed by TiMi Studios, owned by the Chinese Tencent, in collaboration with the publisher. Monitoring company Sensor Tower said that by the end of 2021, the game brought Activision about $1.5 billion.

In the mobile market, Warzone will compete with Garena Free Fire and PUBG: Mobile, which are among the most popular mobile games.

In mid-January, Microsoft announced its intention to acquire Activision Blizzard for more than $68 billion. The company will also have the rights to the publisher's titles, including Call of Duty. It is worth noting that Microsoft releases Xbox game consoles. It is likely that some specific projects or brands may become exclusive to the corporation's platforms.

At the end of January, Bloomberg reported that the next three Call of Duty games would be released on the Sony Playstation. Activision will release a sequel to the Modern Warfare sub-series this year. However, in February, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schraer assured that the next game in the series would be released in 2023.
