The London Internet traffic exchange point turned off Megafon and Rostelecom

The London Internet traffic exchange point LINX (London Internet Exchange Network) decided to turn off Megafon and Rostelecom. Because of this measure, traffic will now go through Asia and will be slower.

This decision was made by the board of directors of LINX. The authenticity of the letter was confirmed by Reuters journalist Ralph Sutter, although there is no official release on the organization's website yet.

The letter is intended for internal distribution to LINX clients. It says that the decision has already entered into force and that LINX will continue to check on other Russian clients that may be associated with the owners of MegaFon and Rostelecom. Other major LINX customers are VimpelCom, MTS and TransTeleCom.

LINX connects the networks of more than 950 different operators and is one of the largest network hubs in Europe with a current peak traffic of 6.89 Tbps.
