Roscosmos demands from ISS partners to lift sanctions from their enterprises

Roskosmos sent written appeals to partners in the International Space Station demanding that sanctions be lifted from Russian space enterprises. This was announced by the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin in his Telegram channel.

The appeals were sent to the leadership of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the European Space Agency (European Space Agency, ESA; Agence spatiale européenne, ASE).

“It is Russia that poses the least danger of the destruction of the ISS. But the population of other countries should think about the price of the sanctions they initiated against Roskosmos, ”wrote Rogozin.

Sanctions against enterprises of the Russian space industry were introduced on February 24. On March 3, Rogozin said that Russia could expand retaliatory sanctions. In particular, the corporation stopped preparations for the launch of the Soyuz rocket with OneWeb satellites, which was supposed to take place on March 4.

Last week, Dmitry Rogozin said that without huge financial injections, the ISS would “fall apart” before 2030. In this regard, Roscosmos has already begun designing its own station.

“We have already started the preliminary design. We need a few more years. Now, if we push ourselves hard, in 2026 we could put the first module into orbit,” Rogozin emphasized and added that the gap between the operation of the ISS and the launch of a new station is undesirable, since in a few years you can lose skills in crew training and research.

He also noted that in the current geopolitical conditions, work on the ISS would be ineffective.
