Mir Pay has become slower due to the growth in the number of new users

The operation of the Mir Pay service has slowed down due to the growth in downloads of new cards. This was announced by the Mir card operator, the National Payment Card System.

“Dear customers, due to the large number of downloads of new cards in Mir Pay, the service may slow down. You do not need to take additional steps to reconnect your card. Please check back to the app later,” the company said in a statement. NSPK notes that in the near future the speed of the cards in the service will increase.

Since March 10, Visa and Mastercard payment systems have stopped working in the Russian Federation. Their cards, issued by Russian banks, work domestically but are not available abroad. Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay services for Russian users who linked Visa and Mastercard cards to them also stopped working.

From the same day, Russian banks stopped issuing new Mastercard and Visa payment cards, in connection with which the demand for Mir cards jumped; the number of users of Mir Pay, a mobile application of the Mir system designed for contactless payment using a smartphone, has also grown sharply.

In addition, Russian banks report an increase in demand for cards from the Chinese UnionPay payment system. So, Gazprombank reported on the issuance of 1 thousand plastic and 3.7 thousand virtual cards of the Chinese payment system for March 9. Previously, the bank issued about 400 cards per month.

According to the Central Bank, Mir cards are still accepted in a number of countries, including Turkey, Abkhazia, Vietnam and others. There you can both pay with a Mir card for goods and services, and withdraw cash.
