Scammers began to search for victims by hashtags in social networks

Sergei Zolotukhin, computer forensics coach at Group-IB, told Izvestia how fraudsters use information published on social networks.

p cites the story of a Muscovite who shared a positive test for COVID-19 on social networks, accompanying the photo with the hashtags "quarantine", "covid19". The next day he received a call from an unknown number.

“The caller introduced himself as an economic crime police officer. He stated that last night a certain woman tried to withdraw funds from a branch of a bank with a power of attorney in my name. She allegedly relied on the fact that I am sick with COVID-19 and cannot do it on my own, ”said the hero of the article.

He lied that he did not have a card from the named bank, and heard short beeps.

Zolotukhin called this case "the next step in the evolution of fraud." According to him, the criminals began to write individual scripts that combine personal information and established schemes. Such "two-movers" are characterized by an extremely high level of danger.

To protect yourself, the expert advised to close your personal account, not add strangers as friends, be critical of information reposting and do not forget that cybercriminals can impersonate anyone on the network.

Earlier, the State Duma proposed creating black lists of bank customers to combat fraudsters.
