Sales of Chinese smartphones in Russia doubled

Sales of smartphones from Chinese brands in Russia have doubled, Kommersant reports with reference to MTS. Among the most popular manufacturers are Huawei, Honor, Oppo, Vivo and Realme, while Xiaomi smartphones have been in short supply since the end of last year.

Russians have been snapping up the most popular Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi models since the conflict in Ukraine began, but then turned their attention to the cheaper devices that remained in stock. So, from February 28 to March 13, sales of Huawei grew by 300%, Oppo and Vivo - by 200%, ZTE - by 100%, and Realme - by 80%, MTS says. In addition, the company noted an increase in demand for push-button phones.

Vivo confirmed a multiple increase in smartphone sales in Russia in the first two weeks of March. Realme representatives agreed with MTS's assessments and said they expect further growth in their market share in Russia.

At the same time, a Kommersant source in one of the retailers said that in March, on the contrary, the focus of buyers shifted towards household appliances, and the demand for phones decreased. Rising prices have played a role, he said, with the average cost of smartphones up 30% over the past month.
