Russians transferred about $44 billion abroad in 2021, the average size of one transfer is $401

In 2021, Russians transferred about $44 billion abroad, which is 9.5% more than a year earlier. Of these, $12.8 billion fell on transfers to the CIS countries, the Central Bank calculated.

A total of about $24.7 billion was transferred to Russia from abroad - this figure also increased compared to 2020 (by 5.6%).

On average, the size of one money transfer check to other countries amounted to $401, which is 2.7 times more than in 2020. In the opposite direction, the size of transfers also increased: $664 in 2021.

The Central Bank notes that the average amount of transfers of Russians to non-CIS countries increased the most. According to the regulator, it increased 4.5 times to $568.

In early March, the Central Bank introduced restrictions on the transfer of currency to other countries. The ban includes transfers of Russian tax residents to their accounts in foreign banks. At the same time, the Central Bank allowed transfers to other people's accounts (for example, relatives) of amounts that do not exceed the equivalent of $5,000 per month.
