Meta Adds New Parental Control Tools for Instagram and VR

Last December, Meta took it upon itself to be more mindful of underage users. Against this background, the company introduced the Family Center feature, which allows parents and guardians to set limits for their children's accounts and monitor the content they view.

First, parents and guardians will have access to the educational section. In it, experts have collected articles and materials on how to teach a child to use the Internet and check information from the Web. In addition, videos are available that help to correctly convey to children the principle of social networks and the fact that the picture on Instagram is not always true.

In Instagram itself, the parental control section has been expanded. Now in it you can watch how much time the child spends in the application and set a limit. Now you can track what materials the child shares. A page is also available that allows you to see what accounts from the list of teenager's subscriptions post.

Now the new parental control tools are available only in the mobile version, but an update for the web application should be released in early summer. To create a pair, the parent needs to send a request from their device to the child's device, and the child must approve it.

The company also announced the release of a parental control update for the Meta Quest VR platform. Parents will be able to restrict access to those games and features that they consider unacceptable for their children. And in the summer, Meta will automatically hide all content with a rating of 13+ for children.

In the mobile application, parents will be able to view the child's library of games and applications and the time spent in them. The child will not be able to install the app if it is not age appropriate, but it will be possible to send a purchase request to a parent who can approve it and the download will start automatically.
