The blogger dismantled the Mac Studio and showed the size of the M1 Ultra chip cover - three times the size of Ryzen 3

According to 9To5mac, the blogger has taken apart Apple's new Mac Studio desktop computer. He showed and estimated the size of the thermal cover of the M1 Ultra chip. The expert found two non-standard SSD connectors inside the motherboard, which do not fit a branded drive from Mac Pro. Apple has so far stated that Mac Studio cannot be upgraded - there are no separate compatible SSD drives for sale.

The blogger found that disassembling Mac Studio was quite simple. To do this, pry and remove the rubber ring from the bottom of the housing. There are four screws underneath to remove the bottom cover. Further, the computer can be disassembled by elements - power supply, protective elements, cooling system, motherboard and elements of additional external modules. There are no glue or restrictions inside.

Most of the case is occupied by the Mac Studio power supply, two fans and a massive heatsink that cool the M1 Ultra chip. It's because of these elements that Mac Studio is twice the height of a Mac Mini.

Parsing Mac Studio

On March 8, Apple introduced the M1 Ultra chip and the Mac Studio system unit, similar to the Mac Mini, but in a larger size. It has four Thunderbolt ports, two USB-A slots, an HDMI port, and a headphone jack on the back. The front panel houses two USB-C ports and an SD card slot. Mac Studio supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Apple claims that the user will be able to simultaneously display the image from the device to four XDR monitors and a 4K TV. Mac Studio comes with M1 Max chips or the new M1 Ultra. In Russia, this device is not available for order.

The M1 Ultra chip is two M1 Max chips connected using an Apple technology called UltraFusion. The M1 Ultra offers 128GB of graphics memory and has seven times as many transistors as the base M1 chip. The Apple M1 Ultra chip contains 114 billion transistors.
