iPhone production in Shenzhen almost recovered after COVID-19

Taiwanese company Foxconn has announced the reopening of its facility in the Chinese city of Shenzhen. The lines of the factory where the iPhone is made have been suspended due to the restrictions of the Chinese authorities due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

Foxconn's Shenzhen campuses resumed normal operations on Wednesday last week, according to Nikkei Asia. In particular, we are talking about the main campuses located in the urban areas of Longhua and Guanlan. Their activities are carried out under the conditions of adherence to the policy of preventing epidemics, as well as measures to prevent and control the spread of the disease.

Reuters reports that the company's internal document instructs employees in Shenzhen's Futian city center to remain telecommuting.

In Shenzhen, Foxconn manufactures a small part of the iPhone, the main production is deployed in the Zhengzhou urban district. The suspension of factory lines coincided with the announcement of the iPhone SE 3 and new color options for the iPhone 13.

On March 13, the Chinese authorities imposed a lockdown in Shenzhen due to the spread of the coronavirus. At that time, health authorities in the country had reported 1,337 new cases of COVID-19. Foxconn initially announced that it would suspend production in the city for the first half of the week.

Last week, work at a factory in Shanghai temporarily stopped Tesla. The reason was also the spread of the coronavirus. Gigafactory 3 produces electric cars for the Chinese market, including the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.
