The number of fraudulent Apple stores has doubled online

StopPhish calculated that the number of phishing online stores of popular manufacturers, primarily Apple, has doubled. Fraudsters sell devices cheaper than the market value, but require an advance payment of 100%.

On such sites, they offer to buy smartphones from Apple and other popular brands (Samsung, Xiaomi). In March, the number of such resources doubled, only in the .ru zone this month at least 20 online stores were registered.

Alexander Vurasko, head of the digital threat analysis department at Infosecurity a Softline Company, confirmed that in March the number of fraudulent resources selling smartphones exceeded the annual average by 30%.

StopPhish co-founder Yuriy Drugach notes that scammers ask for a 100% prepayment, but in they do not send the goods and steal payment card data with the subsequent withdrawal of funds.

Sometimes phishing stores are justified by a technical glitch. After placing an order, the client is called back and informed that in order to complete the order, he needs to provide the card details directly by phone, or make a payment using the link in the messenger.

Yakov Kravtsov, head of the DRP Group-IB research department, notes that not all new online stores are fraudulent - there are resellers among them.

Mobile Research Group analyst Eldar Murtazin says that scammers are taking advantage of rising prices for smartphones and offering goods cheaper. Phishing sites usually only exist for a couple of weeks, he says. At the same time, when the buyer complains to Rospotrebnadzor, the department can only transfer information to law enforcement agencies, and they are reluctant to initiate cases. Murtazin predicts that the number of fraudulent sites will grow.

In early March, Apple suspended sales of its devices in Russia and stopped deliveries to the country. The media reported that the company decided to stop its deliveries to the Russian Federation. Now Apple offers to buy its products from resellers and in mobile stores. After that, prices for iPhones rose by 24-34%, for tablets - by 13-34%, and for Apple laptop models - by 46-142%.
