The Russian OS Simply Linux became free to all users

On March 24, the developers of the Russian OS Simply Linux announced that now all users and organizations can download and install it for themselves free of charge and indefinitely, both for home and commercial use.

The Basalt SPO company (BaseALT) explained that it took this step due to the current situation in the core software market and the departure of many foreign companies from it. The Simply Linux operating system has always been the most “home” of the Alt OS family, but it is quite suitable for equipping the workplaces of employees. It has all the features familiar to Windows users: modern, functional, intuitive and very convenient. Together with Simply Linux, the user receives a set of applications for everyday needs, so the home and workplace can be fully equipped in just a few hours. The Bazalt SPO campaign for Russian users will remain indefinite, regardless of how foreign software companies will interact with our IT market in the future,”

- said the general director of "Basalt SPO".

Simply Linux distributions (versions 9 and 10) can be downloaded from this section of the Basalt SPO website.

Simply Linux OS supports Architect PCs:

x86 (32-bit Intel and AMD processors);

x86_64 (64-bit Intel and AMD processors);

aarch64 (64-bit ARMv8 processors and compatibles);

e2kv3/e2kv4/e2kv5 (Elbrus processors);

riscv64 (64-bit RISC-V processors).

Previously, this OS could be bought for 960 rubles.

The history of Simply Linux began in 2009, when the developer of the ALT Linux Team, Denis Koryavov, released the first version of a distro for home and office, aimed at a novice user. In 2010, Koryavov transferred his developments to Alt Linux, which released several more versions of the distribution based on its platform.

Currently, Simply Linux is being developed by Basalt SPO. The developer tries to adhere to the basic principles set by the author of the distribution kit with the first release: a small number of functional Russified programs, ease of use, a comfortable interface, and minimal hardware requirements.
