EU approves first AI-powered x-ray analysis tool

The European Union approved the ChestLink software tool. The software is built on the basis of AI, which automatically analyzes x-rays of patients. If pathology or suspicious areas were found on them, then ChestLink sends them to the doctor for additional verification. The developer company announced that it plans to connect the first medical organizations as early as 2023.

Oxipit said it has certified ChestLink, a software tool that automatically analyzes chest x-rays. During the tests, no clinical errors and malfunctions were identified. Now the software can be delivered to medical institutions in the EU.

The company says that ChestLink is built on machine learning technology and is capable of automating up to 40% of radiologists' work time. The system automatically checks all X-ray images, and if they do not contain any deviations, it generates a report with a description of the image. If pathologies were found, then he sends the picture to the doctor, who conducts a manual analysis and makes a decision himself. Also, the system does not store patient data, and all images are anonymized and not tied to people.

Representatives of the company told The Verge that they are going to start supplying the necessary equipment to medical institutions as early as next year. Oxipit is now preparing to receive US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) certification, allowing ChestLink to be launched in the US market.
