Canonical stops working on paid projects and services in Russia, Ubuntu users will not be blocked in any way

On April 5, 2022 Canonical announced the termination of all works on paid projects and services in Russia. The company will not restrict or block Russian users of Ubuntu in any way.

Canonical has sent a notice to end support, professional services, and partnerships with Russian businesses.

“We will not restrict access to security patches for Ubuntu users in Russia – free software platforms such as Ubuntu, VPN and Tor technologies are important for those seeking news and dialogue outside government control,” Canonical said.

On March 8, 2022 Red Hat announced the immediate termination of work in Russia with all partners and the organizations according to obligations to comply with sanctions and restrictions.

Since the end of February and in March, many foreign companies have ceased operations or temporarily left the Russian Federation, including Acronis, Adobe, Arbor (Netscout), Atlassian (Jira), Autodesk, Avast, AWS, Coursera, Cisco, Citrix, Docker, ESET, Figma, Fiverr, Globalstar, GoDaddy, Google Cloud, Grammarly, IBM, Javarush, JetBrains, Juniper, MATLAB, Microsoft (Azure, Office), Mikrotik, Miro, MongoDB, NortonLifeLock, NVIDIA, Oracle (+Cloud), Pearson VUE, Qt, Red Hat, Sbbabo.net, SUSE, TeamViewer, Udemy, Unity, Upwork, VMWare, Xsolla, Zabbix and many more.
