On April 9, 2022, Roskomnadzor demanded that the American company Google LLC, which owns the YouTube Internet service, immediately restore access to the official Duma TV channel of the State Duma of the Russian Federation on video hosting and explain the reason for the introduction of such restrictions.
“The State Duma of the Russian Federation is a representative and legislative body of power in the Russian Federation, one of the chambers of the Parliament. The blocking of the youtube channel of the state body, carried out by the administration of the video hosting, hinders the dissemination of information and free access to it.”
Roskomnadzor said. The Russian Foreign Ministry believes that with these actions, “YouTube video hosting has signed its own verdict.” They advise: “save the content, transfer it to Russian platforms and quickly.”
Earlier, YouTube blocked the channel of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. The channel posted exclusive comments of deputies, broadcasts of plenary sessions. The site states that the channel has been suspended for violating YouTube's Terms of Service.
Judging by the picture from the account, it was blocked due to the imposition of sanctions by the American side.
In early April, the RKN warned Google that the agency would begin to apply measures to YouTube video hosting to restrict its work in the country if it continued to ignore Russian legislation - not removing prohibited content and illegally blocking state and non-state media, as well as government channels.
