Unique Ryzen 7 5800X3D against everyone

Yesterday we had the opportunity to compare the gaming performance of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but only in comparison with the Core i9-12900K. Now there is a test with a much larger number of participants. And in general, this is already a full-fledged test of the well-known resource TechPowerUp with a multilateral study of the CPU.

But let's start with games to finally close this issue. We'll skip the 720p tests as they're completely useless in the real world. At 1080p, the new processor outperforms its fellow Ryzen 7 5800X by an average of 8%, and with the Core i9-12900K, the novelty performs on an equal footing. Interestingly, at 1440p the Ryzen 7 5800X3D takes the lead, while at 4K, on the contrary, even the Core i5-12600K begins to lose. True, the difference there is in fractions of a percent, so it is more correct to talk about equality. In general, at 4K, even the old Core i7-6700K lags behind the extreme Core i9-12900KS by less than 10%, so it makes little sense to evaluate the CPU at this resolution.

As a result, in games, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is 5-10% faster than any other AMD processor, depending on the game, and it has parity with the Core i9-12900K. At the same time, there are projects, for example, Borderlands 3, where the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is even ahead of the Core i9-12900KS by 15%.

As for application performance, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is expected to perform slightly worse than the Ryzen 7 5800X due to lower frequencies, but the difference is within 2-3%.

With energy consumption, the situation is also expected. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D draws slightly more power than the Ryzen 7 5800X, but the difference isn't huge. At the same time, the same Core i9-12900K, which is a direct competitor to AMD's new product in games, requires almost twice as much energy. But in applications it is much faster.

Unfortunately, overclocking of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is currently not possible.

As a result, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D turned out to be a really unusual and really gaming processor. In conventional software, it is approximately equal to the Ryzen 7 5800X, that is, the more recent Ryzen 7 5700X, which is much cheaper. And there is no point in novelty in such scenarios. In games, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is really noticeably faster than any other AMD processor, which allows it to perform at the level of the Core i9-12900K, sometimes significantly overtaking it. But whether the increase in productivity in absolute terms is so important, everyone will decide for himself.
