Media: Basis Consortium offered the Ministry of Industry and Trade to prepare a strategy for the development of Russian CAD systems

According to the Kommersant publication, the Basis consortium, which includes companies such as Ascon, Scan, Eremex, Omega, the Institute of Engineering Physics, the Association of Electronic Engineering and other Russian companies and software (software) developers, proposed to prepare a strategy for the development of Russian computer-aided design (CAD) systems for electronics. The amount of the proposal will be about 20-30 billion rubles. The exact amount has not been determined.

The Russian Federation has experience in developing such industrial software, but preparing full-fledged CAD systems is another matter. This is a long, complex and costly process. In addition, there is only one manufacturer of civilian microelectronics with a limited assortment in the Russian Federation. Back in April 2022, the consortium sent a proposal to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (Minpromtorg) of the Russian Federation to develop a strategy for the development of Russian CAD systems. Basis confirmed the development of the strategy, but declined to comment on the rest.

This is not the first initiative to centrally support industrial software. On April 19, Vasily Shpak, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, announced the test launch of the Modular Multiservice Industrial Platform, a marketplace for Russian industrial software. This project began to be developed in the fall of 2021. According to the concept, on this site, companies that need to purchase engineering software will be able to purchase it on the platform by subscription, and part of the costs will be offset by government subsidies.
