Users from Russia cannot download the WhatsApp Desktop client for Mac OS and Windows from the official website

Users from Russia began to complain that they could not download the WhatsApp messenger client (owned by Meta*) on PC from the official website. Information Service a tried to download a client for Mac OS from the official site, at the time of writing this was not possible. However, when downloading from the AppStore marketplace on a Mac, the WhatsApp Desktop client downloaded normally.

In addition to Mac issues, there are issues for Windows 10 and 11 clients. The editors checked this information, and at the time of writing it was not available for download. At the same time, on a tablet with Google Play, the messenger is still available and hyperlinks from the site to digital stores work.

If you use a VPN connection, then the messenger client can be downloaded without problems. What is the cause of the WhatsApp Desktop loading problem is unknown. At the time of writing this article on the WhatsApp blog, there are no reports of changes in the messenger or website.

However, pages with the *․fbcdn․net domain, from which the WhatsApp Desktop client is downloaded, are displayed in the Roskomnadzor registry. Apparently, therefore, downloading messenger clients is not available.
