Ruselectronics has created silicon from Russian materials for the production of electronic devices

Ruselectronics holding of the Rostec State Corporation presented at the Innoprom-2022 exhibition a sample of single-crystal silicon created entirely from Russian materials. The technology will allow import substitution of foreign raw materials in the production of electronic power devices.

The material is created in several stages. First, monosilane is synthesized from metallurgical silicon powder or from silicon dioxide, from which, in turn, polycrystalline silicon is obtained. It is on the basis of this semi-finished product that single-crystal silicon is created.

The technology was developed at NPP Salyut of the Ruselectronics holding together with the Institute of Physics of Microstructures of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Chemistry of High-Purity Substances of the Russian Academy of Sciences by order of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.

“Rostec has mastered the technology of its own production from Russian materials of single-crystal silicon with a specific electrical resistance of more than 1000 ohm-cm. Thanks to this, it is possible to completely replace the imports of foreign raw materials that were used to produce silicon wafers for electronic power devices, such as transistors, thermistors, power rectifiers. At Innoprom, we are demonstrating a prototype with a diameter of 107 mm,” said Alexander Bushuev, General Director of NPP Salyut.
