Google promised to start alpha testing of Steam on ChromeOS, but did not name the exact dates

Greg Hartell, director of gaming products at Google, said the company has launched a Steam alpha test for select Chromebook models and directed users to a consultation forum. There was no promised post during the speech, it came out later, but with some corrections. The company said that the Steam alpha will be released "soon."

Google first announced plans to add Steam support to ChromeOS in 2020. And already at the end of February 2022, 9to5Google journalists reported that they had discovered a list of Chromebooks that would be the first to receive this opportunity. There are seven devices on the list, mainly from ASUS and Acer.

Now Google has not confirmed the list of these devices in any way and has not named the official one. Steam is expected to require an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and at least 7GB of RAM to run.
