State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov proposed a moratorium on transport tax when buying a domestic car. The proposal has already been supported by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The head of the Ministry of Industry and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Denis Manturov allowed the tax to be frozen for 2-3 years, and also recalled that the Ministry of Finance is in charge of taxes. The department has not yet received the relevant bill, but expressed its readiness to study it.

Konstantin Erokhin, partner of the J&S International Bar Association, recalled that the transport tax appeared in Russia in 2003. By paying for it, drivers compensate for the damage they cause to the environment and roads. Therefore, the size of the tax increases with a larger engine size of the car, with the exception of electric vehicles, which are not taxed.

Accordingly, such measures could significantly facilitate the life of owners of multi-displacement and powerful cars. On the domestic market, there are cars with a power not exceeding 150 horsepower. For them, the size of the transport tax, even for Moscow, may not be so significant and not exceed 10 thousand rubles a year.
