Sony has filed a copyright complaint against its own website

Sony Pictures India sent a request to Google to remove 34 URLs from the Sony Liv platform, which is owned by Sony, citing copyright infringement.

Sony Pictures Network India has received a notice of pirated content from anti-piracy company Markscan. The notice was accompanied by links to various copyrighted films and shows on the streaming portal. In addition to the SonyLiv URLs, the notification also added an IMDb link to the Cold Courage series, writes TorrentFreak.

Why the Sony affiliate complained about the Sony-owned streaming service is unknown. To make matters worse, other rights holders have also claimed Sony Liv as a "pirated" platform. URL removal notifications came from Shoopte Film sales, Multi Screen Media and Cricket Australia.

Google addressed some of these errors by denying most takedown requests, but two Sonyliv URLs were removed nonetheless.

This is not the first time that unsubstantiated claims of copyright infringement have been sent. Many major companies, including Warner Brothers and Walt Disney Pictures, have demanded that Google remove content from their sites. And last year, Reddit user NateNate60 received a copyright infringement notice from his ISP, Comcast, after he torrented an ISO of Ubuntu.

The provider asked the user to search for this pirated content on all of their devices connected to its network and delete the files mentioned in the notification, and reminded the user that piracy of its service is a violation of Comcast DMCA policy and may result in the suspension or termination of service of its account records. The provider was not even stopped by the fact that the developer Canonical actively encourages the distribution of OS distributions via BitTorrent up to the use of its own tracker.
