Sony testing PS5 system update with 1440p support and game lists

Sony has launched a beta version of the PS5 system software update, which includes 1440p support, game lists and other changes. The PS5 beta will be available to select users in the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany and France.

What's new:

1440p video output support introduced. Players can now select this resolution on compatible monitors and TVs. If the game supports 1440p, then the full supported resolution will be displayed on the player's display. Sony has warned that variable refresh rate (VRR) will not work at 1440p, only at 1080p or 4K. You can check 1440p support in the Display & Video section of your system settings.

The game library now allows you to create lists: up to 15 lists of 100 games each. You can add disc, digital, and streaming versions of games to the lists, and you can add one game to several different lists.

There was a function to compare 3D and stereo sound on the same screen. You can also configure additional options there.

In addition, new social features have been added. In groups, you can request a shared screen, notifications about the possibility of joining the game, sending stickers, voice messages and viewing the profile of new friends are available.

The user selected to participate in the beta will receive an email invitation. The company reminds that not all features available during the beta test will be included in the final version of the system. It is scheduled to be released at the end of 2022.
