Seeed Studio Unveils Raspberry Pi Router Board

Seeed Studio has unveiled the Raspberry Pi Router Board, which turns a Raspberry Pi into a router. The device is equipped with two Gigabit Ethernet ports, USB, a microSD card reader, a 40-pin GPIO header and a small OLED screen.

It is important to note that the Raspberry Pi Router Board is not a standalone device, but an expansion board for the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4. The size of the board is 146x80mm. The Ethernet controller is based on the RTL811E chip, and a 0.91-inch OLED screen can be used for service information and monitoring.

The board will not work without an attached Raspberry Pi 4 microcomputer in a reduced Compute Module form factor. The miniature computer is based on a quad-core ARM Cortex-A72 processor with a clock frequency of 1.5 GHz. The company releases versions with 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM. There are also versions with built-in 16 or 32 GB eMMC storage. The Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 Lite version comes with no built-in memory module.

Seeed Studio is offering a $55 Raspberry Pi Router Board expansion board. At this stage, only pre-order of the device is available. The company has also prepared detailed documentation that will help with setting up the software. It is noted that the Raspberry Pi Router Board is compatible with Raspberry Pi OS, Ubuntu Server and OpenWrt.
