The satellites are intended for scientific and technological research, including the development of technologies for implementing inter-satellite communication channels, measuring the level of electromagnetic radiation, remote sensing of the Earth and monitoring the environmental situation.
In addition to 16 Russian satellites, the Soyuz-2.1b rocket successfully launched the Iranian Khayyam Earth remote sensing spacecraft into the target orbit.
