The last spacewalk of Russian cosmonauts did not go according to plan

Cosmonauts of the state corporation "Roscosmos" Oleg Artemyev and Denis Matveev made another scheduled spacewalk from the International Space Station (ISS). According to the plan, they were supposed to be in space for 6 hours and 44 minutes, but they had to return earlier (after 4 hours and 1 minute).

Cosmonaut Oleg Artemyev was instructed to return from outer space to the ISS as soon as possible due to the risk of a communication break. The fact is that the voltage level in the battery of his suit has reached "very low" levels. The corresponding decision was made in Roskosmos. Denis Matveev also returned inside the station.

Oleg, this is already a very low voltage, you urgently need to return. Because if the battery runs out completely, it's not only there, the fan, the connection may be lost. And this, you understand, is impossible without communication.

Later, Roscosmos added that the situation is under the control of the Mission Control Center near Moscow. The astronaut's health is not threatened. The Orlan-MKS suits have been used by Russian cosmonauts on the ISS since 2017; due to the polyurethane shell, it is designed for 20 spacewalks.

The main task in the framework of extravehicular activity was the preparation for the work of the European remote manipulator ERA (European Robotic Arm). This system is a robotic "arm" about 11.3 meters long. The manipulator is intended for assembly work, support of astronauts during spacewalks and maintenance of the orbital complex. During the work, the cosmonauts installed two elbow cameras on the manipulator and dismantled the launch ring from one of its two end effectors.

This was the 63rd Russian exit as part of the ISS project and the fifth in 2022. Work in progress will be completed during the next spacewalks.
